We are delighted to welcome Dr Sam Nicol to the lab. Sam has returned to Australia after a two year post-doc at the University of Alaska. Sam uses mathematical optimization tools (particularly Markov Decision Processes and stochastic dynamic programming) to figure out the best way to manage resources over time to achieve conservation goals. Over the next 3 years Sam will be looking at how to optimally manage a dynamic network of conservation resources. Among Sam’s case studies, is investigating how to conserve migratory species phenomena under climate change.
